"after 12 plays : A blast to play. A REAL strategic wargame and NO Euro clone. Downloading the Living Rules is a must.
The game gives you a VERY accurate historical feeling.
The French need to crush the opponents on the battlefields, year after year after year (just to drain the Allied armies AND their diplomatic initiatives). JUST like 1805-1812 ! It's frustating to conquer countries with mass armies, and still see the diplomatic efforts ruin all those hard fought gains. Those who give the game a low score because of the power of the diplomcy (cards), just don't know the period the game tries to simulate.
The Allies (under the umbrella of Britain) need to gain time and stay in the diplomatic game. IF they still can muster enough cards each year, they will come back after the 1811/13 crucial years, IF they still have the manpower to equip the necessary armies.
France killed everyone on the battlefields from 1805 to 1809, but Napoleon could NOT win the battle against the old monarchs and their overwhelming diplomatic (cards) game.
The more I play this thing the better it gets. No two games are the same.
What a game, what a designer, what a jewell. Best historical strategy game ever. All this in 4 hour."
